Ethanol
One of the most prevalent organic substances found in both industrial and consumer goods is ethanol. This aliphatic alcohol is mostly used in industry as a solvent and as an intermediary in the synthesis of other compounds. Drugs, plastics, lacquers, polishes, plasticizers, and cosmetics are all made with ethanol. Ethanol is used in medicine as an antidote for ethylene glycol or methanol overdose as well as a topical antiinfective. Beverages, colognes, mouthwashes, liniments, perfumes, aftershaves, and various rubbing alcohols are examples of commercial products that include ethanol.
