Are you looking for chocolate-covered rice crispy treats ideas on the internet? These are delicious, and easy to make chocolate covered rice crispy treats. Which occasion are they for? What is the occasion? These party favors are for a get together or are you simply craving chocolate right now? You will find what you are looking for if you answered "yes" to any of these questions.
I love double chocolate, don't you? These chocolate dipped treats are covered in mini chocolate chips and drizzled with polkadot magic chocolate crumbs. These treats can be tricked out! We can use any combination of milk, dark and white chocolates for toppings and coatings.
We'll begin with a recipe for making the treats. Here's my version. I prefer to make my own rather than buying them in the shops. This allows me to customize the size. This recipe can be made in two batches if you have treats for many people.
Rice Crispy Treats Recipe
Ingredients
Crisped Rice cereal - 6 cups
Margarine or Stick Butter 1/2 off
1 Bag of Marshmallows, preferably Small Marshmallows, 10 oz.
Directions
1. Spray a baking dish or casserole dish with cooking spray. Set aside. Pour crisped cereal into large mixing bowl.
2. Over low heat, melt the butter in a sauce pan. Spray the cooking spray on the wooden spoon.
3. Add the marshmallows to the butter once it has melted. Stir immediately. Let butter and marshmallows melt until they become liquified.
4. Take off heat and add cereal to the bowl. Mix with a spoon, or spray your fingers using the cooking spray.
5. Mix until well combined. Pour into the dish or baking tray. Spray your fingers with cooking spray, and then press down on the cookie sheet until you are satisfied with the thickness. Your treats will be the same depth as the casserole dish or tray. A deeper dish or tray will yield thicker treats.
6. For approximately 15 minutes, place in the refrigerator. Once set, remove from refrigerator.
7. Take the hardened cereal mixture out of the dish or tray and place it on a large cutting board. Cut out the squares using a sharp knife (I prefer a chef knife). To decorate your chocolates, return each piece to the baking tray.
Now let's get to the fun part: decorating! Let's get started by setting up our decorating station. Let's see what we have:
Rice Crispy Treats Decorating Station
-Decorating Saucer. You place one treat at time on it and decorate it before you set it aside.
-Baking Tray/Cookie Sheet. Place your finished treats here.
2-4 Caps and 2-3 medium plastic sauce bottles. These will be filled with melted chocolate. These will serve as the tools for decorating the treats in the most effective and clean manner. It is much easier to replace caps with hardened chocolate at the openings than it is to clean them repeatedly. This is the best way I have found. **If you want to decorate your treats with different types chocolate, you can use at least one type per treat and keep an extra bottle for when you are in need.
-2-3 Tall, Wide Glasses. These are for sauce bottles. Warm water should be used to fill them to 1/3 of their capacity. To keep the chocolate from melting, warm water should touch the sides of your bottle. Do not use hot water as the chocolate may seize (thin). Use warm water instead.
-Sauce Pot. Here are the glasses and bottles. This container should be filled 1/3 to 1/2 full with water. Place it on a stove or portable burner and heat over a gentle simmer.
-Bowls to Top It All One bowl per topping: mini white chocolate chips or mini dark chocolate chips; and mini milk chocolate chips or crushed cookies.
There are plenty of clean towels. You can choose to use paper or cloth. Clean your hands with a damp cloth.
Then, melt the chocolate
This is how I melt chocolate. One bag of semi-sweet chocolate coating wafers, or whichever type you're using at the moment, into a thick, sealed plastic bag for freezing. Microwave on 50% power for one minute. The chocolate will not have melted completely yet. Take out the bag and use your fingers to crush the chocolate. Mash as much as you can, then return the bag to the microwave. Melt again on 50% power for 30 seconds. Take out the chocolate and use your fingers to work it. If the chocolate is still not liquid, For 30 seconds, repeat the previous step. Do not overheat chocolate or it will seize. Take off the cap of the bottle and place it on top of the counter. Take one corner off the bag. As you would for toothpaste, squeeze the chocolate out of your bag and into the bottom. Cap back on bottle. Place bottle in one of the glasses filled with warm water. Then, place it into the sauce pan containing warm water.
Chocolate Covering Technique for Rice Crispy Treats
I. Chocolate covered with chocolate chips. Apply the chocolate chips while the chocolate coating remains wet. Then, let them set at room temperature. The messy process of dippin' can make it difficult so I use sauce bottles to coat my treats. It's so much easier. It's easy to do and the results will be amazing!
1. Borders. This is not for display, but to make a "fence", in order to cover the remaining chocolate coating. Use a sauce bottle to work with just one treat at a given time. Place a chocolate border around each treat's top (we won't coat the sides or bottom). Then, place the tray on the baking sheet. Before moving on to the next step, create borders for all your treats. Warm water can be added to the glass. Allow chocolate-covered treats to set for a while.
2. Filling. Fill each container with the melted chocolate one at a time using the sauce bottles. It is easier to work from the edges to the center, then move towards the middle. Don't fill the entire space. You should leave a space at the center. DO NOT LET THE CHOCOLATE SIT, grab the one that you are using by the sides and tap the saucer against it until the chocolate fills in the spaces. Next, move on to the next step. Continue this process until you have all your treats. Take one treat at a while. The chocolate coating must be moist to stick chocolate chips to the treat.
3. Chocolate Chips. Take some chips and mix them with the wet chocolate. You can mix and match the various types of chocolate. Place the treats on a baking tray. All treats should be finished. Allow chocolate to set for several minutes.
II. Crushed Chocolate Cookies. You can add the cookie crumbs to the treats in the same way as adding chocolate chips. There are several ways I crush cookies. Choose your favorite chocolate cookie sandwich. Take out the cream and enjoy! It won't need to be decorated. You can place the cookies in sealed plastic bags and crush them gently with your hands. I prefer to place the bag onto a cutting board, and then lightly smash them with my rubber mallet. A food processor is also an option, but don't make them too small. They should still be chunky. Place the crumbs in a bowl and serve.
