Making clean drinking water available
Corporate social responsibility in India is an issue taken seriously by Hindustan Coca-Cola. The reason? It’s more than just giving back to the community. HCCB believes that it is part of the community and must responsibility contribute to it. There is a need to enrich the lives of the people they live among. This impact must be positive and improve the lives and living conditions of the community.

Corporate Social Responsibility in India

Water is a precious resource as it is essential for the survival on this planet. The demand for water consumption is increasing day by day due to the accumulation of various factors. The deficit monsoons and lack of freshwater bodies are to be blamed for water scarcity across the globe. The water crisis has gained momentum in recent years due to lack of proper mechanisms to conserve water across India.

The water crisis in India offers a striking reminder of how climate change is rapidly morphing into a climate emergency. According to a global survey, India is among one of the worst countries when access to safe water is considered. The report also claims that the situation could deteriorate further if proper countermeasures are not taken up.

Nearly 76 million people in India do not have access to safe drinking water and nearly 54% of the rural women are forced to travel nearly five-kilometre daily to get drinking water. Today safe drinking water has become a luxury for people living in drought-hit regions of India.

It is important to understand that managing the water situation is not limited to government agencies. It is a moral responsibility of all the stakeholders including organisations and communities to conserve water. Top FMCG companies such as HCCB have come forward to tackle the grave situation of water scarcity. Under its corporate social responsibility initiative, HCCB is trying to provide clean water facilities to the drought struck communities and villages of the nation.

HCCB has persistently helped the communities where there is a poignant issue of water scarcity due to lack of freshwater bodies. In order to provide easy access to the clean water HCCB installed a “Water ATM machine” in the Nandpur village of Ghaziabad Uttar Pradesh. The round the clock water dispensing machine will be run by village panchayat that is made accessible to the villagers at a nominal cost per litre.

HCCB joined hands with different NGOs to provide water dispensing units for the drought-ridden communities and villages of India. Many villages across the country do not have access to safe drinking water. The lack of availability of the water results in causing health and nutrition issues to these villages. To address the clean drinking water issues HCCB has taken many community-centric initiatives. In areas where there is a challenge of water storage due to the unavailability and unaffordability and lack of water purifiers, HCCB has built individual RO units. In certain areas where individual RO units are not possible, HCCB has built community RO units at the village clusters. The clean water is then sourced from these community RO units and supplied to the nearby villages and communities.

HCCB has been persistent in bringing positive impacts in the lives of the villagers and is always elated to see a sense of happiness in the faces of the villagers. HCCB under its corporate social responsibility is humble and proud to help the communities around the nation and continues its efforts to bring change in the rural communities of India.
