Homemade caramelized French onion dip

Made with healthy ingredients and in no time, this homemade caramelized French onion dip is one of the best healthy recipes of all time.

A dip that you can eat with everything! This is how almost everyone who tried this dip said! So, I will not hide the secret anymore. I am revealing in this article the long-awaited recipe of my homemade caramelized French onion dip! And what is best about it is that it is made with healthy ingredients, which makes it one of the best healthy recipes of all time.

Onion dip with vegetables

First, we are speaking about a homemade dip. Hence, preparing this dip at home, makes it fresh, cost-effective, and preservatives-free. You will need to make it ingredients that you have in your fridge or pantry. And most importantly, you will be able to control what to put inside. Clearly, your dip is healthily defined!

Second, this recipe is very easy to make. Once you caramelize the onions, all you need to do is to combine all ingredients in one bowl and your homemade caramelized French onion dip will be ready.

Last but not least, this dip is highly marked as flavorful. And we all owe this to the caramelized onions we are adding to the dip. If you plan to make this dip, then you clearly do not have an issue with onions. Therefore, compromising on caramelized onions is out of the question. The more onion you add, the more flavorful your dip will be.

I love how creamy this dip is despite the onion lumps it has. You can serve it with a crudité platter including veggie straws, salty crackers, or chips. And if you want to go healthy, try my baked chips recipe and wash off any guilt.

To boost the flavor of the dip. Adding raw onions will make the dip squishy. Caramelized onions boost the flavor of onion in the dip and add that tangy flavor you are looking for.

For this recipe, you can have a good result with one caramelized onion. However, try adding more onions to the recipe and see the results for yourself.

I should mention here, two important points. First, you can always prepare caramelized onions ahead of time. Store them in an air-tight container in the fridge for future use. Second, that having this dip overnight is much better than serving it fresh. The reason is that the flavors work together overnight to give you a super delicious homemade caramelized French onion dip to enjoy!

Making this homemade caramelized French onion dip is completed in two steps.

First things first, caramelize the onions. I am not advising on using sugar in this recipe, so caramelizing onion requires only oil and chopped onion. You need to fry the onions until you reach the golden brown color.

Once the onion is caramelized and cooled, transfer it to a bowl and start adding the ingredients: yogurt, cream cheese, and seasonings.

Next, mix to combine all ingredients, and then your dip will be ready.

I will repeat my statement above: You can always serve the dip immediately. However, you will notice better results if you prepare this homemade caramelized French onion dip overnight, or ahead of time.

– Usually, French onions dip calls for the use of mayonnaise. In this recipe, I am substituting mayonnaise with yogurt. But you can always swipe back to mayonnaise, especially if we are talking about homemade eggless mayo.

– I am using labneh to make this sauce thicker and creamier. However, you can always use cream cheese instead.

– Yogurt: although I recommend plain yogurt, you can use as well sour cream or Greek yogurt instead.

Vegetable stock: you can always use chicken or beef stock instead.

– Plain potato crisps: chips are the best when it comes to pairing with this French onions dip. They make a perfect match. If you do not want to put extra weight, you can always try my baked potato chips recipe.

– Potato wedges: When having potato wedges with this dip, you are actually having a healthy fulfilling dinner with minimum effort and calories.

– Focaccia bread: I never thought focaccia will pair well with anything except oil and balsamic until I tried it with this French onion dip.

– Veggie straws: Serve this dip in a crudité platter next to carrots, celery, cucumber, and bell pepper sticks. You will have an amazing appetizer on your dining table.

– Salty crackers: pick up a pack of your favorite brand or make it at home using my salty crackers recipe for a healthy option!

Any type, no restrictions. Red onions have the deepest flavors, however, for sweet or bitter flavors, you can also use white or yellow onions instead.

This dip is best stored in an air-tight container in the fridge. You can keep it in the fridge for around 4 to 5 days.

The stock. Although we are using in this recipe the vegetable stock, French onion dips usually contain beef broth or beef stock instead.
