Corning is a leadingsupplier of display protection technology for smartphones. Recently Corning hasannounced a new industry standard protection technology for smartphones. Thistime Corning has come up with Gorilla Glass Victus for the display of the smartphones. This technology has an improved drop and scratch performance. If you look fromthe very beginning of its evolution, Corning’s technology has been opted byover 45 manufacturers. More than 8 million devices have used Corning’s glassprotection technology by far. Along with the handsets, devices like wearables, tablets, and even laptops are using Corning’s display protection technology.

GorillaGlass Victus

Generally, users give priority to features like durabilitybefore they start checking other specifications of the device like cameraquality, screen size, and more. So, by keeping in mind the same factor, Corninghas developed the Gorilla Glass Victus technology.

The Gorilla Glass family has got improvements regarding the dropand scratch performance, for the first time. You may also see a more improvedscratch resistance technology in the Gorilla Glass 6. By far Victus, asexplained by Corning, was able to survive even when dropped on a rough surfacefrom a two-meter height. This tells us the rigidness it has. One more aspectwas kept in mind while developing the Victus, and it was the idea that thistechnology might also be helpful in the curved displays. However, Victus didn’tcome up with significant implications for OEMs regarding the volume or weight,it will, however, possibly be making its way in getting used for the tablets, wearables, and laptops.

Even though the last generation display protection technology byCorning did improve a lot on the drop protection, it was still seen that therewere many scratches visible on the phones. This was a major factor that led tothe development of Victus. This was one of the crucial factors for whichCorning decided to make Gorilla Glass Victus.

John Bayne, the senior vice president, and general manager ofCorning’s mobile consumer electronics division, in a recent interview, said,“Instead of our historic approach of asking our technologists to focus on asingle goal – making the glass better for either drop or scratch – we askedthem to focus on improving both drop and scratch, and they delivered withGorilla Glass Victus.

Conclusion

Corning would simply have given it a name Gorilla Glass 7, butthat would not have been judgmental. The improvements in this new displayprotection were bigger and better than the previous ones. So, instead of merelygiving it a name in the series of Gorilla Glasses, Corning decided to give it aunique name, and hence they came up with the title “Victus” whose Latin meaningis “Survivor”. By giving it the name Gorilla Glass Victus, Corning indicates tous about its high durability and reliability.

Gorilla Glass Victus is all set to make its debut on an upcomingsmartphone by Samsung, and it will most probably be one of the handsets fromthe Galaxy Note 20 series which is all set to launch on August 5.
