Conqueror – Britain’s Answer to Soviet Heavies

If you’re looking for a tank that’s a force to be reckoned with, then look no further than Conqueror – Britain’s Answer to Soviet Heavies was designed specifically as a counter to the IS-3 first seen by the Allies at the end of WWII. The Conqueror was near the top of the food chain and an armored icon of the 1950s, but its development dated back to WWII. It was part of a solution to Britain’s realization during WWII that they were outgunned and out-armored by foreign designs.

In response, the British designed the heavy tank FV214 Conqueror to counter the IS-3. At 70 tons, it was significantly heavier than other designs of the era and carried a massively powerful 120mm gun in a 20-ton turret.
