IVF stands for “In Vitro Fertilization” which is also known as a test-tube baby treatment. This technique was introduced in 1981. A first-ever baby born with the IVF treatment named as “Louise Joy Brown”.Till now, in the calculation, there are more than five million babies who have been born with the help of IVF technology. This technique is utilized by the people who want to have a baby but they do not, and this is treatment is used when it is not able to conceive naturally by the female. One out of eight couples suffer from this problem and then they undergo IVF treatment. During this process of IVF, Follicle Stimulating Hormone (FSH) injections are administered at higher quantities in the female partner to produce multiple mature follicles within a single cycle. Thereafter, mature eggs start to retrieve from the ovaries with the help of needle aspiration at the time just before the ovulation starts to occur. Eggs that are retrieved from the females are then allowed to mix with sperms outside the body in the laboratory.

E This leads to the formation of embryos. The embryo thus formed is transferred inside the uterus of the woman or female partner. Chances of having twins or triplets are higher with IVF treatment because of multiple embryos transfer in the female uterus. Apart from IVF, if a male has poor sperm quality then ICSI technology is utilized with IVF to improve IVF Success chances. And, if a female has uterine problems or she is unable to carry a full term pregnancy then she can seek the assistance of a gestational carrier or surrogate mother who carries the baby on the behalf of intended parents. The process in which a surrogate carries the baby for some other couple is known as surrogacy. The success rate of IVF treatment decreases with the age of the female partner. For example, women who age more than 35 years have 40.7 % success rate and it is only 3.9 % for women who are more than 42 years old. Nowadays, IVF is considered as one of the safest and most successful infertility treatments. IVF treatments are growing at a faster rate and a time will come when it will outrank natural conception.
