Metal lipstick tubes were replaced by plastic and paper tubes during World War II because metal was required for the war effort. Lip stick became scarce during the war, even in the new packaging, as some of the crucial components, notably petroleum and castor oil, had become essentially unavailable.
I don't like wearing Lipstick. But putting aside my own preference for the bare mouth, I have to admit that lip stick has had a big impact on human culture throughout the years. Lip stick deserves a position of honour on the list of what I like to refer to as "exceptional everyday things" because of its significance in the past, present, and almost certainly future.
