Researchers also corroborate that caffeine has several other surprising benefits if it is taken in moderate amounts.

Each day, billions of people rely on caffeine to start their day or get over the afternoon slump. Commonly present in coffee, tea and several other energy drinks, caffeine is a natural stimulant. It hits the brain directly upon consumption and blocks the effect of a neurotransmitter called adenosine. This is the neurotransmitter that makes us feel tired, so caffeine deters its effect, thereby alleviating fatigue and laziness.

Researchers also corroborate that caffeine has several other surprising benefits if it is taken in moderate amounts.

Improves cognitive performance

The National Centre for Biotechnology Information published a psychopharmacology report indicating that caffeine improved visual vigilance, reaction time, and boosted alertness and wakefulness. The cognitive functions and focus level of the subjects were also heightened on consuming coffee before work.

Increases Resting Metabolic Rate

Resting metabolic rate is the total number of calories burnt when the body is at rest. Caffeine induces this metabolic rate to increase significantly in the short term usage and aids in burning extra body fat. However, long term consumption makes the body tolerant to this stimulant, thereby diminishing the effect on metabolism.

Reduces risk of heart ailments

A journal published by American Heart Association found that people who drank more caffeinated coffee had a lower risk for heart failure. Across three separate studies, the subjects showed reduced chances of heart diseases by 5%-12% compared to those who consumed no caffeine.

So now with so many legit benefits, you don’t have to make excuses anymore to get another cup of coffee. But remember, these benefits are only applicable when caffeine is consumed in a moderate amount.
