Niagara Falls Canada Travel Planning

Niagara Falls must be on everyone's travel bucket list. Tourists have descended to this location in droves ever since Napoleon Bonaparte's brother celebrated his honeymoon here more than two centuries ago. An extremely amazing spot on the planet, even after all these years, you have to see it for yourself.

Niagara Falls is on the Niagara River between Ontario, Canada, and New York state. Bridal Veil Falls and American Falls are on the American side, whereas Canada has Horseshoe Falls.

Niagara Falls guide

Niagara Falls was the first state park in the U.S. In 1895, the world's first significant hydroelectric power station was built here. A year later, Nikola Tesla introduced his direct current (DC) system, revolutionizing Buffalo's nighttime lighting.

This article hopes to help you make the most of your trip to Niagara Falls.

How to Visit Niagara Falls: Plan Your Trip

The United States and Canada both have access to Niagara Falls. If you have time, visit both sides.

The Canadian part of Niagara Falls boasts the greatest views of North America's most iconic cascade.

 Where is Niagara Falls located?

Niagara Falls sits between Ontario, Canada, and New York State on the Niagara River. Buffalo, NY is 20 miles from Niagara Falls. Niagara Falls is 400 miles from New York City, a 7-hour journey. Most people visit Niagara Falls, Canada, from Toronto, 90 miles away. Hamilton and Mississauga are nearby choices.

Which side of Niagara Falls is better? American vs. Canadian

Visiting only one side of the waterfall will not suffice. American and Canadian sides of Niagara Falls provide magnifique views to the tourists.

Niagara Falls has a strong tourism push, so we have included each side's attractions. If possible, arrange this full-day trip to Niagara Falls, New York, and Ontario. Border crossing requires a passport and a Canadian visit visa.

 Canadian Niagara Falls

Canadian side Niagara Falls tours are ideal for sightseeing. Most tourist attractions and greater waterfall views are there. Many travelers claim Niagara Falls, Canada, resembles an amusement park because of its unique attractions. Visitors love the mix of entertainment and outdoor places.

In Ontario, you may stand in front of the falls and find hotels and casinos nearby. While these huge lodgings are a tad invasive, the waterfalls provide a lovely background.

Niagara Falls- The United States

Niagara Falls, USA offers outdoor recreation and natural activities. On the American side of the falls, the vistas are not as breathtaking, but there is still enough to explore.

Niagara Falls State Park is the country's oldest, thus it is worth seeing.

 Niagara Falls, Canada Attractions

Our Niagara Falls, Canada guide has more recommendations. This package includes a heli-tour, Voyage to the Falls boat excursion, a supper at Skylon Tower, and other attractions. We suggest it to first-time visitors.

Voyage to the Falls is the official Canadian Niagara Falls boat tour

This trip brings you as near Horseshoe Falls as possible, providing you with a unique view. The boat crosses American and Bridal Veil Falls before approaching Horseshoe Falls.

You can stay in the cabin or wear a poncho and go on the deck for the voyage. We recommend reserving the full-day excursion for Voyage to the Falls and other Canadian sights.

Journey Behind the Falls is the perfect way to see Niagara Falls

Journey Behind the Falls is popular at Niagara Falls. It takes you behind Horseshoe Falls, affording one of the greatest views of Niagara Falls.

Take an elevator 130 feet down from the Table Rock Center close to the falls to the underground tunnels. This is a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, so reserve your ticket early.

BEST THING TO DO IN NIAGARA FALLS: DINNER AT THE SKYLON TOWER

While in Canada, see Skylon Tower. This 520-foot tower gives the greatest view of Niagara Falls. Even the elevators, nicknamed "Yellow bugs," are completely glass for great views. You may explore the Skylon tower's 360° outlook or the Revolving Dining Room or Summit Suite Buffet. Both restaurants offer wonderful menus.

This combo tour featured a dinner cruise, Journey Behind the Falls, and a helicopter ride.

The finest way to see Niagara Falls is via helicopter

Consider a Niagara Falls helicopter tour. This 12-minute flight oversees the Niagara Whirlpool and Rainbow Bridge. Queen Victoria Park, Skylon Tower, and Toronto will be seen from above.

We recommend a helicopter flight, which you can do from the U.S. side. The excursion included a boat ride and dinner at Skylon Tower.

 NIAGARA SKYWHEEL VIEWS

SkyWheel is a must-do in Niagara Falls, Ontario. It is Canada's tallest observation wheel at 165 feet. It is at Clifton Hill, near the falls, and has great views. The 10-minute Skywheel trip is climate-controlled and enclosed, so you may ride year-round. The Skywheel offers the best nighttime view of Niagara Falls.

It is also a popular site to witness the Niagara Falls fireworks, so reserve in advance if you want a certain date or time.

Niagara Falls attractions on the US side

There are a few must-sees in Niagara Falls, NY. This tour featured all the iconic places in a few hours, so we chose it. Check out our Niagara Falls, USA guide.

THE BEST PLACE TO VIEW HORSESHOE FALLS IS TERRAPIN POINT ON GOAT ISLAND

Off-the-beaten-path Terrapin Point Lookout on Goat Island is a Niagara Falls must-see. From the island's western end, you can see Canadian Horseshoe Falls and Niagara Gorge. To get to Goat Island, you must cross the Niagara River. Spend time on the walking paths or visit the Cave of the Winds.

MAID OF THE MIST, AMERICAN SIDE NIAGARA FALLS BOAT TOUR

Taking a boat tour of Niagara Falls is a must. The Maid of the Mist boat excursion on the American side is a popular attraction. You will go through the Niagara Gorge and into Canadian waters to see the waterfalls before returning to the U.S. side.

The 20-minute ride departs every 15 minutes. We recommend planning a trip that includes Cave of the Winds in advance.

CAVE OF THE WINDS, NIAGARA FALLS' BEST U.S. ATTRACTION

Another prominent U.S. Niagara Falls sight is the Cave of the Winds. Several platforms lead to the base of Bridal Veil Falls, where a natural cave was found in the 1830s.

You will cross Niagara Gorge on wooden bridges and steps. Wear traction-soled shoes and a poncho because it will rain. Hurricane Deck is called because of the circumstances as you approach the falls, which are reminiscent of a hurricane.

The World Changed Here Pavilion is a multimedia display that explores the history of Niagara Falls. We appreciated this half-day excursion.

AMERICAN FALLS, ONE OF NIAGARA FALLS' BEST SIGHTS

Bridal Veil Falls and American Falls are very spectacular, but Horseshoe Falls in Canada is the most famous. From the U.S. side of Niagara Falls, the American Falls are approximately 100 feet tall. Best viewed from Prospect Point. Luna Island, between American and Bridal Veil Falls, has a great vista. The island is not large or popular, so it is a great site to observe U.S. waterfalls.

 NIAGARA FALLS' BEST SEASON

Niagara Falls is stunning any time of year. Depending on your plans, one season may be better than another. All tourist sites are open in the summer, but it is also busy and hot. Booking accommodation and trip tickets months in advance are pricey.

In the spring, you may view some tourist sites and obtain cheaper accommodation. The weather is uncertain, but it's less congested.

Naturalists should visit Niagara Falls in the fall. Beautiful fall colors, pleasant temperature, and few visitors.

You may not want to visit Niagara Falls in the winter because most attractions are closed. When it's cold and the falls freeze over, it's an amazing sight we hope to witness soon.

 PARKING AT NIAGARA FALLS

To visit Niagara Falls, drive. Most Niagara Falls visitors come from Toronto, 90 miles away. Hamilton and Mississauga are nearby choices.

Niagara Falls is a 7-hour journey from NYC. The American side is 20 miles from Buffalo. You can still visit Niagara Falls while in NYC. It is a lengthy drive; consider booking a tour.
