The ultimate guide to getting upgraded on Delta Airlines
Delta Airlines (delta.com) offers free and unlimited first-class upgrades to frequent flyers. Create a new account for a rewards membership, travel as usual, and you'll ultimately earn enough miles to gain silver medallion status, allowing you to take advantage of free flight upgrades.
Upgrades on Delta Airlines flights are subject to seat availability. As a gold, platinum, or diamond medallion status member, continue to rack up miles to earn progressively greater upgrade priority.
Steps to Upgrade Flight on Delta Airlines
· Visit Delta Airlines' official website and register for a free Skymiles account. Then, in the upper right corner, click the "Skymiles" tab, scroll down, and click "Join Skymiles." Complete the online application.
· To earn medallion qualification miles, or MQMs, fly Delta Carriers or one of 16 partnered airlines, such as Alaska Airlines. When booking a flight, use your Skymiles number, or log in to your Delta account and book online. MQMs are determined based on the kind of fare and the length of the flight.
· At 25,000 MQMs, get silver medallion status. Silver medallions get a free upgrade on Delta flights, but higher-status members get more perks. Gold status requires 50,000 MQMs, platinum requires 75,000, and diamond status requires 125,000 MQMs.
· Make a flight booking with Delta and provide your medallion status Skymiles number. Delta Airlines will automatically upgrade your flight ticket to first class for free if a seat is available. Silver, gold, platinum, and diamond medallion members are given progressively higher seating priority.
