There are many news aggregator apps and Google, of course, has a competing app. The app that replaced Google Newsstand simply called Google News does a pretty good job of providing users with regional and topical headlines. However, some users have recently started experiencing issues with Google News. Google News not working on Android for some and the issues are different. For some Google News does not load, for others the app crashes.
Why isn't Google working on my iPhone/iPad?
When Google is not working on your iPhone/iPad, the first thing you need to check is your cellular data. Make sure the connection is intact or the Wi-Fi is properly connected.
Another reason for Google not working on iPhone/iPad is that your cache memory is full. Visiting many websites on your browser can fill up your cache very quickly.
A quick solution to get rid of accumulated memory cache would be to clear your browser cache. Go to your history, check the boxes next to Cookies, Site Data, Cache Images and Files, then tap Clear browsing data.
Also, if you are using an outdated browser, Google will not work on your iPhone/iPad. Further steps to update your browser and fix other issues preventing Google from working on iPhone will be discussed by me later.
Check internet connection
No internet connection will prevent Google search engine from working on iPhone. This statement is also true for other search engines. There are three possible places to look to confirm that you have an internet connection.
The most common internet connection check is to confirm with your internet service provider if you haven't exhausted your data plan. Second, your phone's cellular connection may have been turned off by you or someone else. If you are using cellular data, you should also check if you have allowed Google to access cellular data. Open Settings and select the Google app. Make sure cellular data is turned on.
Restart the Google app
Google not working on iPad/iPhone may be caused by a problem in the Google Chrome app or your browser app. In such a case, your Google Chrome or the browser should be restarted. Here's how to restart Google Chrome or another app on iPhone/iPad:
- Open the overview of all the most recent apps you've used.
- An iPhone 8 or lower will allow you to double tap the home button to access the preview.
- On iPhone X and later, iPad with iOS 12 and later, or iPadOS: Swipe up slightly and pause between screens.
- Swipe right or left to find the Google app.
- Swipe the app up to close it.
- To open the app, navigate to your app library and tap the app icon.
Restart iPhone/iPad
Another quick fix for Google not working on iPhone/iPad is to restart your device. Restarting your device helps it cool down and clears its RAM, which can stop Google search on iPhone from working. Here's how to restart your device:
Update the Google app
When a Google application is deprecated, it may no longer be supported by Google; therefore, you cannot use its search engine. Here is the solution to Google app on iPhone not working because it is outdated.
- Open your iPhone/iPad app store.
- Click on your profile icon in the store.
- Check for pending updates, then click the Google Chrome app (or your browser) to update.
- You can also use the Update All button. Your App Store will update all apps on your phone, including the Google app.
