Delta is not changing the size of its planes, it is simply allowing certain customers to purchase an additional seat at a higher price. Effective January 2, 2015, Delta will allow travelers who have purchased tickets in advance to replace their basic economy seat with an extra seat in first class at no additional fee. It will be similar to the upgrades offered by American and United airlines.
