Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a non-invasive medical procedure that produces a detailed virtual image of the body's interior organs using a high magnetic field, radio waves, and a computer. Closed MRI systems are used to screen for and diagnose brain, heart, spinal, breast, and abdominal disorders. According to the European Magnetic Resonance Forum (EMRF) Foundation, around 11,500 MRI systems were sold in the United States in 2014/2015, with one-quarter being open systems and the remainder being closed systems.
