Teeth Whitening or Bleaching

Bleaching or teeth whitening is one of the general dental services. According to the definition of reputable emergency dentists, the method of teeth whitening causes the tooth color to return to its normal color, and bleaching leads to brighter teeth. Teeth whitening method involves steps such as:

- Brushing with whitening toothpaste

- Laser teeth whitening

- Using bleach tape

- Using whitening gel

Currently, the use of teeth whitening services has many applicants. By advancing age, small cracks appear on the enamel. These cracks become the site of accumulation of bacteria, and over time the teeth change color. Teeth whitening methods remove these impurities and bacteria and whiten the teeth again.

What is the difference between teeth whitening method and bleaching?

When teeth are whiter than normal, we call it"bleaching". But regular teeth whitening that leads to the original color of the teeth is called teeth whitening. So using whitening toothpaste can also help with this process. But bleaching requires special bleaching materials, and this process cannot be done with normal teeth whitening.

Causes of discoloration and dullness of teeth

Whether the discoloration is internal or external, various factors are involved that require different types of bleaching or teeth whitening methods. The causes of internal or external tooth discoloration areas follows:

- External tooth discoloration includes discoloration and damage to the enamel. This condition is caused by factors such as the consumption of inappropriate foods and beverages. Alcohol, tobacco, colored, and carbonated beverages cause discoloration of the tooth surface, and the outer surface of the tooth becomes dull. If this problem is treated quickly and teeth whitening is performed, bleaching is no longer needed. Failure to treat the discoloration of the tooth's outer surface on time can lead to damage to the tooth's inner surface.

- Internal tooth discoloration may be due to intrinsic or acquired factors. Some people inevitably experience an internal discoloration of their teeth as they age. But most people experience discoloration of the inside of their teeth due to acquired factors such as taking certain medications or trauma and decay. Tetracycline use and excessive fluoride use can also cause discoloration of the internal tooth discoloration. Normally, this type of discoloration cannot be treated with teeth whitening and bleaching methods. Therefore, the use of dental restorative methods, such as veneers and composites, is recommended.

Instant teeth whitening

Instant teeth whitening with light or laser teeth whitening is actually done with strong light radiation. This method is used in offices and dental clinics and is not a home method. This method uses an LED light or plasma arc. Among the lights used to whiten teeth, halogen light is superior. Light stimulates peroxide molecules well and does not damage the tooth pulp.

This method uses a blue light that has different and adjustable wavelengths. Each of these wavelengths is adjusted for hydrogen peroxide reactions. These steps are done in 6 to 15 minutes and with degrees of25 to 38%. Interestingly, ultraviolet light and heat are removed from this type of light and laser. Each teeth whitening session by the dentist lasts between30 minutes to an hour.
