Propylene Oxide Market

Propylene oxide is used to make polyethers and propylene glycol. Acute (short-term) exposure to propylene oxide has caused eye and respiratory tract irritation in humans and animals. Even with dilute solutions, dermal contact has caused skin irritation and necrosis in humans. In humans, propylene oxide is also a mild central nervous system (CNS) depressant. In animals chronically exposed to propylene oxide via inhalation, inflammatory lesions of the nasal cavity, trachea, and lungs, as well as neurological effects, have been observed. In rodents, propylene oxide has been shown to cause tumours at or near the site of administration, causing forestomach tumours after gavage ingestion and nasal tumours after inhalation exposure.
