Stretch wrap is the main application of plastic film in the unitization of pallet loads of merchandise.
Stretch wrap works by using the plastic film's elasticity, which makes it try to shrink back to its original size after stretching, to supply the restraining force. This force gradually decreases as the plastic relaxes with time. Shrink wrap also uses elasticity, but it does so by exposing an oriented film to a higher temperature, which gives the molecules the energy they need to relax and approach their pre-orientation dimensions.
