8 Points to Note before You Hire a Mover
8 Points to Note before You Hire a Mover
We talk about 8 points to consider while hiring a moving company. This helps you confirm you have made the right choice.

Your reason to relocate the home may be anything – for job, education, or a change in scenery. Whatever may be the reason, you need a reliable moving company as your trusted partner. Do you know why – movers make your task easy and smooth.

However, picking the right moving company is not a cake walk. You need to be highly cautious about multiple things as a wrong choice can make the entire relocation process a mess.

Here are 10 points to identify a reliable moving company.

  1. How long is the company in business?

Pick a moving company with experience. Someone born yesterday should not be your choice as it may lack the expertise to relocate home of all types. Also, your moving company must have a long list of clientele and a satisfying feedback section. As a rule of the thumb, hire someone with at least half-a-decade of experience. Always remember that a lucrative long-distance moving company quote should be your only reason to hire someone.

  2. Confirm it has the licensee and insurance

Hire a properly licensed moving company because by assigning your household belongings to a moving company, you are taking a big risk. Check the moving company’s website and you will see the license and insurance details. If you are still not confident, ask the company for proof of its insurance or whether it is a member of the Better Business Bureau.

 3. What type of moving services is offered?

It is vital that you analyze the type of services a moving company offers you. Most movers perform home delivery of household items and if anyone is hesitant about it, do not appreciate its services. There are a lot of companies serving door-to-door basis and you need to hire only one belonging to that category.

 4. Can they handle special items?

It is important to know whether the moving company can handle special items at home. While a mover tries to woo you with its moving company quotes, you should ask it whether it has the expertise to pack and relocate an aquarium, antique painting, or a piano. Only movers with proficiency in special handling should be your choice. Glass utensils, sculptures or guns also fall into special items.

 5. Check the reviews online

Read the customer reviews on the website or other online sources. Analyze them and understand whether the clients are happy. And do the reviews seem genuine? Several online review sections might have anonymous feedbacks and these need to be ignored. Evaluate genuine feedbacks and conclude.

6. Find the company’s service area

Confirm if the moving company is offering services in your area. This is highly important before you hire a mover.  The moving company will be having a map of areas served or a list of areas they serve. Even if it has a good reputation but the service is not provided in your area, it is not the right moving company for you.

7. What about the quality of packing materials?

Before you agree to a moving company quote, confirm the quality of packing materials. This is vital as you need every item to reach the home intact. Ask about the materials used and how they plan to pack fragile items.

8. Do not pay large deposit

You should pay a large amount as a deposit. Though most genuine moving companies will not demand advance payment, some red flags would ask you for deposit. Beware of such moving companies as it can lead to a scam. Always pay in full after you receive the belongings at the new home. Often some movers may ask for a token deposit as an assurance which is about 10% of the total cost. This is fine to pay but not the full amount.
