Perhaps you've seen commercials on TV for a local urgent care facility and wondered how it varied from a hospital to an emergency room, if at all. The fact is that, while there are numerous differences, there are also several parallels. One distinction is that hospitals are prepared to deal with both emergency and non-emergency medical crises.

These urgent care clinics, on the other hand, are primarily designed to address emergency medical issues and give more convenience. It should be noted, however, that while urgent care clinics do manage crises, they are non-life-threatening medical emergencies with little danger of repercussions.

The great majority of hospital emergency department visits are made by patients who are experiencing a non-life-threatening medical emergency. Urgent care facilities offer a suitable and practical alternative to the emergency department, with fast check-ups and treatment.

In terms of cost, they are often less expensive to attend than a hospital emergency department. For example, if a person cuts their finger and the wound requires stitches, they would only be charged for the treatment of the cut in an urgent care facility.

In a hospital emergency department, however, they would be charged not just for the treatment of the cut but also for an additional payment. Often several hundred dollars would be added to their bill just because they visited the emergency room of the hospital.
