Treprostinildrugs, sold under the brand names Remodulin for infusion, Orenitram for oral,and Tyvaso for inhalation, is a vasodilator that is used for the treatment ofpulmonary arterial hypertension. This medication is usually taken in tabletform, which may be taken once or twice daily. Patients must be advised,however, that this type of treatment is associated with some serious sideeffects, such as severe headaches, vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhea, tremorsand changes in blood pressure. Formulationof Treprostinildrugs was first studied in patients who were receiving coronary arterysurgery. In addition, this agent has been found to be highly effective inpreventing blood clots from forming in the deep femoral vein system, thelargest vessel in the body. This anticoagulant property of Treprostinil drugshas been found very useful in the treatment of embolism, the clotting of bloodin the lung. Its ability to prevent platelets from sticking in the vena cava -the large vessels that drain the heart - has also been found very beneficial inthe treatment of cardiovascular disease. While the benefits of oral inhalationof Treprostinil drugs have not yet been proven in controlled clinical studies,it has already been shown to have significant therapeutic value in patientswith moderate to severe plaque psoriasis and in patients with milder forms ofthe disease.
