Nobody knows what talent can be hidden in someone! Similarly, no one can predict what may unveil the talent rooted deep in the soul. Sabarna Roy, a very talented author, had once given up his writing to pursue a corporate career. Little did he know that he is made for writing. His story exemplifies how talent will never leave the hand of the artist, rather guide the artist through every up and down.
Prologue of Life
Born on 15th December 1967 to the Roy family of Calcutta (now Kolkata), Sabarna had a very happy childhood. His father was a marketing professional, and his mother was a homemaker. He has some nostalgic memories with his younger sister to cherish. Always guided by his mother in studies, he enrolled for his B.E. in Civil Engineering branch of Jadavpur University.
“The person born with a talent they are meant to use will find their greatest happiness in using it.”- Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Talent Unveiled
During university days, the inner talent of writing flourished in Sabarna. Along with studies, he was busy writing poems in English and Bengali languages. The art of writing prospered in his heart and which moved him to a path of inscribing his first slim book of English poems, Pain, which was published in 1986. Being the voice of youth, this book proved to be a great sensation among the student community of Calcutta (now Kolkata).
Later, in 1988, he completed his engineering and immediately started his career as an Engineering Professional in the Corporate Sector. But sadly, this drove him away from writing for very long.
Revival of Writer
Time was passing silently, and the responsibilities never let the inner writer of Sabarna wake up. But, nothing can suppress the real talent for very long. It was July 2007, when he realized how much he was missing writing, and now he couldn’t live anymore without fulfilling his passion. And this feeling made him took his talent sincerely.
“All of us are talented in our unique way. We just need to recognize our capacity and develop our talents to their full potential.”
Like his role model, Mr Sunil Gavaskar, Sabarna also decided to play a great inning and keep on writing books one after the other.
Zeal Met The Glory
Blessed with the love and appreciation of both, his readers and critics, Sabarna always wrote to express his thoughts and never to impress reviewers. The real reward of his hard work was attained in 2019, when his fifth book, Random Subterranean Mosaic: 2012 - 2018, was adjudged the Best Book of the Year. This win gave him recognition in National and International media including Forbes India, Passion Vista and The New York Guardian.
“Embrace your talent and pursue it. You won’t believe what you can accomplish.”
And once again, the success kissed the forehead of dedication when Sabarna was conferred with the Literoma Laureate Award in 2019 and the Literoma Star Achiever Award in 2020.
The Engineered Writer
This talented writer always considers his engineering degree as his professional training in writing, with this proving that an Engineer has many shades!
Being a passionate techie and vigorous writer, Sabarna is named as Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde by some of his readers. This engineer has a depth in his writing style, which, interestingly, impresses more female readers of all generations than males.
Situations arising out of the pandemic made him focused more on human stories which in turn led him to write his seventh book that is likely to be published in 2021.
Conclusion
“Everyone has talent. What is rare is the courage to follow the talent to the dark place where it leads.”- Erica Jong
In today's world, when people are running a rat race and fighting to be normal or copying what everyone else is doing or trying to prove themselves like others rather than being unique, it takes a courageous soul to nurture his innate talent. And, Sabarna Roy proves that there cannot be any hurdle big enough which can stop someone from doing so. When he decided to move again to his long-lost love for writing, he defied all the barriers of age, time and responsibilities. With his celebrated journey, this articulated author is urging the youth to not their talent go! Rather bring the courage to prosper it.
