What Is A Venous Ulcer?

A venous leg ulcer is a chronic, non-healing wound that occurs on the leg and takes more than 2 weeks to heal with traditional medical treatments. They require advanced medical care & attention by a venous ulcer specialist. If left untreated, they can lead to severe medical complications such as amputation, etc.

What Causes Them?

A venous leg ulcer is caused due to high pressure in the veins of the lower legs. The veins in the legs are responsible for carrying oxygen and nutrient-rich blood back to the heart. When these veins get damaged, it disturbs blood circulation and increases pressure on the leg valves. It results in a pool of blood in the veins and a small and open sore occurs on the skin of the leg, known as a venous leg ulcer. This condition is called sustained venous hypertension.
