The Presidential Medal of Freedom | Acemyhomework Writers
The Presidential Medal of Freedom is a medal of honor presented to civilians or military men and women, who have done an exemplary job in making the United States and the world, in general, a better place to be. This award is given by The President of the United States of America. People who do a commendable job in improving national security, world peace, and cultural practices are bestowed with this award. Military men are also eligible for this award, and they are allowed to wear it on their uniform despite it being a civilian award.
President John F. Kennedy launched this award in the year 1963, and it dominated over The Medal of Freedom which was founded by President Harry S. Truman in 1945 to honor the civilian participation during the Second World War. Posthumous Medal of Honor is presented to the family of a soldier who dies in war. The posthumous awards are made when the proposed receiver dies as a result of the deed which merits the award.
History
The award was founded in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy through executive order 11085. It was established with a superior status, exceptional and distinguishing motif and for an immensely stretched out purpose than the Medal for Merit. It is the first U.S. civilian’s neck decoration. The award is also the only sash and star decoration in the U.S. that is given in the distinction grade. The Chief Commander degree of the Legion of Merit – which might only be endowed to foreign heads of state—is a star decoration, but without a sash. The executive order dictates that the medal should be bestowed on somebody each year on the 4th of July but in the years 2001 and 2010 this did not happen. The President selects the recipient of the medal based on recommendations or the president’s initiative. However, the first recipients of this award were exempted from the rule of the sitting president to be the one to choose the people being honored. This is because President John F. Kennedy chose them before his assassination and President Lyndon B. Johnson officially awarded them after he took over the office.
