Aruru accepts and creates Enkidu who possesses strength and power similar to that of dozens of wild animals. In the epic of Gilgamesh, initially, Enkidu is a wild man but changes to honorable man due to his friendship with Gilgamesh. The bond also makes Gilgamesh change from being a bully to a hero who cares about his people. The friendship love between the two makes Gilgamesh the better man, and when Enkidu dies, he mourns. The death compels Gilgamesh to fight for immortality due to his fear to die.

The primary lesson in this epic of Gilgamesh is that no human can avoid death in any way. Gilgamesh is seen being bitter after realizing only gods can live forever. Even after Enkidu warning Gilgamesh against fighting with Humbaba, the two go ahead with the fight in Cedar forest leaving only their fame to live forever.

Enkidu and Gilgamesh realize that the gods have more powers and deserve respect. Gods expect humans to obey them and their orders and they do punish those who go against their will. Enkidu is punished with a painful death, and his dream shows the punitive punishment the gods gave him by sentencing him to death. Gilgamesh quest to become immortal proves fruitless and he fails to gain the eternal life.
