There are four main approaches to enterprise data storage –
- Storage area network(SANs)- storage area networks offer block-level network access to your storage through a high-speed network. And the network consists of multiple disk arrays, switches, and servers. They enhance application performance and improve data protection. Because they facilitate data protection, storage area networks can be integrated into an organization’s business continuity management. SANs are highly scalable.
- Network Attached Storage(NAS) – NAS units include dedicated hardware devices that connect to a local area network, usually through an Ethernet connection. Due to this, all of the devices on that same network have easy access to their data and the network itself, as long as the proper permissions are set up first. It is a box that has multiple hard drives in a RAID configuration for redundancy. Network-attached storage is typically used in homes and they are also used in small to medium-sized businesses.
- Direct attached storage– it is computer storage that is connected to a single computer and therefore, not accessible to other machines. This storage refers to individual disk drives in a server, or to groups of drives that are external to the server but are directly attached through a small computer system interface(SCSI).
- Infrastructure as a Service(IaaS)- last but not least, Public cloud storage is Infrastructure as a Service( IaaS) that provides block, file, object, and hybrid cloud storage. The most prominent cloud storage vendors can offer a broad geographic scale in terms of data centers and support staff. They also deliver software-based infrastructure as a complete set of services.
- Nowadays, data storage services are using more practical thinking technologies, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning. It captures, analyzes, and extracts value from their data. The importance of data storage cannot be underestimated as the exponential generation of new data shows no signs of slowing down.
