In September, 4.4 million workers quit their jobs in the US, according to the Dept of Labor’s Bureau of Labor Statistics and the New York Times reports that there were approximately 75 unemployed workers for every 100 open jobs in September.
Many companies are finding that the easiest way to retain your current workers is to retrain or promote them. Now, promoting is something that everyone would be happy to receive but not every company has the structure to promote to retain.
LinkedIn in a 2019 review of over 32 million professional profiles found that employees stayed longer at a company that allowed a move even laterally as they were opening the employees career paths and knowledge base. The employees felt empowered about their career and value to the company.
