As much as a number of disabled people would wish to partake in active and fulltime employment, they tend to face several barriers that include negative attitude from the employers, transport challenges and limited opportunities for skills development. At present, the employment rates of individuals within the United States stand at 50% in comparison to over 75% of the general working populace. Nevertheless, the employment opportunities available to persons with disabilities have been noted to differ from one organization to another, as well as one industry to another. In this regard, the large organizations and the service industries have been noted to offer increased opportunities for the disabled persons compared to the smaller organizations and technical industries.

Consequently, Facebook utilizes The Arc, which is a not-for-profit organization, to assist various employers to hire and train individuals with diverse kinds of developmental and intellectual disabilities. Additionally, Facebook has been known to flock campuses with the objective of recruiting disabled graduates.

From the above observations, one may conclude that even though bigger organizations that include Google and Facebook have offered adequate opportunities for persons with disabilities, the smaller organizations, which offer the biggest proportions of employment opportunities in the United States, have not offered adequate opportunities for persons with disabilities. The failure to offer opportunities to the disabled persons by the small organizations has been attributed to lack of adequate resources to cater for the needs and accommodation of the disabled workers. This, therefore, discourages them from offering opportunities to the people with disabilities.
