There are a number of things that separate my slot reviews from other people’s work you might find at online casino review sites. Firstly, my slot reviews are personal. Unlike many slot review sites, which simple copy a review that already exists, I do not. I play every slot game I review (wherever possible), so that I don’t only see it from a selling perspective, but also from a player’s point of view.
There is much more to a slot review than discussing how much the jackpot is worth, and how it can be won. What about the graphics of the slot, and how does it run, is it smooth or lagging? What are the various special features in the game, and how do you activate them? Is it wiser to wager on the big stakes, or should you go for smaller stakes, due to reason X or possibility Y? These are the types of things I like to cover in my slot reviews. I cover them because, as a gamer, I would like to know them.
As with most of my work, I prefer to talk to the gamer, rather than bore them with endless lists of information. As I’ve said, I’m gamer myself, and so I know what gamers want to hear. In a friendly conversational manner, I reveal to them everything they want to know about a particular slot, and I try to do so in an honest manner.
If a slot machine isn’t very good, or is aimed at a specific type of gamer, I will always strive to mention that, if I can. Obviously, sometimes clients don’t want honesty, and instead they want me to sell the game to the gamer. In these circumstances, I will focus on the positive and only briefly touch on the negative, so as not to dupe the gamer into believing they are playing a gem, when they really aren’t. Some form of honesty with the gamer, must always be maintained.
A typical slot review from me will be between 300-500 words, although I have been known to write up to 800 words, if the slot has enough features so as to avoid waffling.
A typical slot review by me will include the following.
- A general description of the slot
- A section on how to wager, the coin values, min/max wagers, and number of paylines
- A run-down of the icons in the slot
- Scatter symbol, wild icon, bonus rounds, free spins and multipliers analysis
- How the game runs, and any other remarks about its design (including its developer)
- An overview of the game, from a gamer’s perspective (namely my own), what will appeal to what type of gamer, and why. This generally tends to be the section of the article where an opinion is given honestly.
My slot reviews span a broad range of genres, including classic slots, pub and fruit machines, specialist slots, multi-reel slots, multi-payline video slots, progressive jackpots and more.
Obviously, some elements of a typical slot review are subject to change, for example the special features section in a typical classic slot, for most of these slots have no such features. This can either be replaced with additional text to lengthen out the review (without waffling), or dropped altogether, as you wish.
Honesty is important when reviewing a game, because the gamer will know if you’re lying as soon as they play it. If it’s honest slot reviews you are after, you want the experience of somebody who is a gamer, as well as a writer.
