What's the usage of an exhaust silencer?
EI Williams designs custom built silencers including vent silencers, engine silencers, fan silencers and industrial silencers to meet all system requirements. We also have as part of our product line; thermal insulation blankets and industrial catalytic converters.

The exhaust silencer plays a really essential role to muffle the noise coming from the blasts inside a combustion engine .It is also used to cleanse the exhaust gases with all the assistance of a catalytic converter. Get extra information regarding engine silencer

The exhaust design,as you might have noticed, includes a bulge towards the end. The cause behind building this bulge is usually to present a bigger cavity for the exhaust gases to flow, this mellows the sound coming straight in the engine and operates around the principle of a Helmholtz resonator.

One other design kind, that my physics teacher taught me about ,contains splitting the exhaust stream into two using the assist of a secondary channel emerging in the pipe after which reconnecting it back .the length of this secondary channel is such that when the two sound streams meet again ,they may be 180 degrees out of phase with respect to each other, this causes destructive interference at this junction! Therefore muffling the sound.

The catalytic converter catalyzes the redox reaction of ‘carbon monoxide-hydrocarbons’(ox) and ‘nitrogen oxides’(red) ,which primarily aids in converting pollutants to less damaging gases.
