Is there any doubt that the standard of education, despite the “ever improving” results we often hear of, is getting worse? Poor spelling, grammar and punctuation (of which I, being a product of said system, also suffer) is all but ignored in modern comprehensive education and even in colleges and universities. Is it too much to ask that the future leaders of nations learn to write in their native tongues? There are many methods of improving the quality of essays: constant rewriting, peer review, editing and revision companies such as prescottpaper, even basic spellchecker! But let’s not harangue the kids, nor the teachers (bless them), the real fault lies in government’s acceptance of “managed slow decline”.
