Propylene Oxide
Propylene oxide is a chemical that is used in the production of polyurethane, unsaturated resins, surfactants, and other goods. PO is manufactured industrially using two processes: chlorohydrin and halcon (hydroperoxide). The former process generates ecologically undesirable chlorinated organic by-products as well as calcium chloride, whilst the latter generates equimolar levels of co-products but necessitates a significant capital expenditure.
