Acetic Acid

Acetic Acid is a severe irritant to the eyes, skin, and mucous membranes. Prolonged contact with glacial Acetic Acid on the skin may cause tissue destruction. Inhalation exposure to acetic Acid vapours at 10 parts per million (ppm) may cause eye, nose, and throat irritation; at 100 ppm, marked lung irritation and possible lung, eye, and skin damage may occur. IDLH vapour concentrations of 1,000 ppm cause significant irritation of the eyes, nose, and upper respiratory tract and cannot be tolerated. Animal experiments and industrial exposure were used to make these predictions. Acetic Acid skin sensitization is uncommon, but it has occurred.
