Constipation is one of the most common gastrointestinal problems worldwide. The rates of occurrence, however, differ by region. In Canada, women had nearly double the rate of chronic constipation as males.

According to a survey issued by Coloplast, a global leader in ostomy care, urology and continence care, and wound and skin care, one in every seven persons in the United Kingdom suffered with constipation in 2014-2015. The situation was significantly worse for youngsters, with one out of every three experiencing constipation in 2014-2015.
