Hydroxypropylacrylate is produced through the reaction between propylene oxide and acrylicacid. In this reaction, two isomers of hydroxypropyl acrylate are formed. Inboth of these isomers, after a polyacrylate is formed at the double bond, thependant –OH group is available for further reactions.
Hydroxypropyl acrylate is primarily used to manufacturecross-linkable polymer coatings and adhesives. It is produced and primarilyused in closed systems. Its major use is either as a co-monomer in themanufacture of polymers or as a chemical reactant in the manufacture ofchemical intermediates. Hydroxypropyl acrylate is used in the productionof pressure sensitive adhesives, ion exchange resins, emulsion polymers, resinsfor radiation-curable coatings, heat-curable automotive clear coats, etc. Risein demand for automotives across all regions is driving demand forhydroxypropyl acrylate.
