DHL Express France invests €170 million in new logistics hub
DHL Express has inaugurated its new logistics hub in Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport, which is said to be ten times larger than the previous one. DHL Express France has invested €170 million in the construction of its new regional hub in the airport's cargo area. This new facility covers a total area of 91,000 m2, equivalent of 13 football fields.
The strengthening of DHL Express' presence at Paris-Charles de Gaulle will fully contribute to the attractiveness of the airport's "cargo city", Europe's leading and largest cargo zone. Groupe ADP is involved as a land-developer and investor.
By moving from its air freight station in cargo 2 district of the airport - the oldest freight station of the cargo city - to a state-of-the-art warehouse in cargo 7 district, DHL will be able to rely on a more efficient tool for sorting and cross-docking air parcel flows in international transit, coming from and going to Europe, the French overseas departments and territories and major exports.
A smaller carbon footprint
The DHL Express hub at Paris-Charles de Gaulle will meet strict environmental criteria, including LED lighting with motion detectors, a sorting system with IE4 high-efficiency motors, energy-efficient air conditioning. The site aligns with the zero-emission target for 2050 set by Deutsche Post DHL Group. DHL Express France, which also has an intermediate objective of carrying out 70 percent of its pick-ups and deliveries using green transport by 2025, is multiplying initiatives in this direction. The company has more than 100 clean vehicles and delivers more than 50 city centres with zero-emission solutions. It is also developing many innovative solutions, such as on-demand deliveries, collaborative deliveries by bike or on foot, consignments and Relais Colis service points.

Regarding this inauguration, Augustin de Romanet, chairman and CEO of Aéroports de Paris SA - Groupe ADP, stated: "The strengthening of DHL Express's presence at Paris-Charles de Gaulle shows, in the current climate, the resilience of the cargo business in general and the dynamism of express freight in particular. With this new hub, the airport's Cargo city consolidates Paris-Charles de Gaulle's position as one of the most successful airports worldwide for air freight transport."
Once it is up and running at end of October, the site will be able to operate with a processing capacity of 38,000 items (parcels and flyers)/hour, i.e. fifteen times more than the old facility. It will also accommodate 719 employees working in 32,000 sq.m of operating spaces.
Philippe Prétat, CEO of DHL Express France, said: "We are delighted to have built our new sorting centre in the heart of the Paris-Charles de Gaulle airport cargo area, which is a real crossroads for international trade. It is a key site for our French and global network. We have a long-term vision for this facility as we will be able to increase its capacity as volumes increase and create new jobs."
