Apple microelectronics specialist, “iCorrect”- that offers repair services for Apple hardware has confirmed through a video that screen replacement does not affect the Face ID feature anymore. Also, the authentication system functions fine without a hitch with the release of the iOS 15.2 beta update. But it still contains a minor issue.
Even if the screen replacement is a genuine one supplied by Apple, your device will display a warning that says, “Unable to determine if your phone display is a genuine Apple part.” As per our assumption, the Face ID feature has something to do with the matching part serial numbers. The premise of matching serial numbers is the proprietary software, which is limited to Apple-authorized repair outlets.
No More Expensive Visits to an Apple-Certified Outlet
A few weeks ago, iFixit revealed that Apple had attached a microcontroller to the iPhone 13’s screen, which has a system of communicating with the Face ID hardware. If the serial number does not match the internal parts, Face Id hardware will disable itself. You can say it is a security feature. You can fix the issue simply by taking out the microcontroller and attaching it to the replacement screen.
But only if you could do it, as the entire microcontroller engineering part is costly. The only way is to look forward to the iOS 15.2 beta update. If you decide to work on a microcontroller, it requires an expensive microscope, including the micro soldering tools that need to remove and attach the tiny chip. And it is also costly. In addition, you need to have a lot of expertise to execute successfully. In other words, the process is time-consuming, expensive, and unrepairable at most independent third-party outlets.
