Wireless charging is a form of electromagnetic induction charging. It makes use of electromagnetic induction to give power directly to portable electronic devices. This technology has been around for years and was first used on solar cells and boats. Now, the most popular application is the Qi wireless charging technology for cellphones, smartwatches and slim handheld computers.
Electromagnetic induction is very similar to the induction style of cell phone wireless charging. In this case, a thin metal coil is placed on top of a battery to keep it charged. However, the key difference is that electromagnetic induction uses radio frequency energy to transfer power from the battery to the electronic device.
Cell phones, watches and other electrical devices use the first method. This is because the induction coil produces a magnetic field in a very small area. It causes the electronic device to pick up the electric charge and transfer it to the battery. All wireless charging devices, including Qi wireless charging for cellphones, use the second method, as it produces stronger currents.
A wireless charging pad is a good way to transfer power wirelessly. This device has two metal plates that have long names with C shaped slots at the top and bottom. The top plate has a small gap between the slots. This allows a Qi charging pad to be inserted between the two plates. The charging pad keeps the battery charged and even acts as a small back up battery for laptop computers.
