Photovoltaic (PV) glass, also known as solar glass, was discovered while searching for alternatives to current solar panels and ways to incorporate solar generation into our daily lives. These technologies can take many forms, including windows in offices and homes, a car's sunroof, smartphones, and even roof tiles in other Building Integrated Photovoltaics materials (BIPV).
In reality, a transparent Solar Photovoltaic Glass is a counterintuitive concept because solar cells must absorb and convert sunlight (photons) into energy (electrons). However, due to the transparency of solar glass, sunlight will pass through it, defeating the purpose of using sunlight. Researchers and scientists have discovered a way to change the way solar cells absorb light. The cell selectively captures a portion of the visible solar spectrum while allowing normal visible light to pass through. Solar cells in solar glass have been integrated by experts to convert solar energy into electricity by fixing solar cells between two glass panes with a special resin filling.
