In 1985, the United States Environmental Protection Agency initially authorised peracetic acid for use indoors on hard surfaces as an antibacterial. Agricultural operations, dining places, healthcare facilities, and residential bathrooms are examples of use sites. Peracetic Acid is also approved for use in pasteurizers in breweries, wineries, and beverage factories, as well as on food processing machinery. It is also used as a water purifier and disinfectant, to clean medical supplies, to stop biofilm growth in pulp industries, and to disinfect medical supplies. Per acetic acid can be used to disinfect cooling tower water, preventing the growth of biofilm and efficiently controlling Legionella bacteria. Nu-Cidex is a brand name for per acetic acid, which is an antibacterial.
