How do you identify a Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE)?
In 2011, the Genuine Temporary Entrant (GTE) requirement was introduced to ensure visa applicants with a genuine intent to stay in Australia temporarily to pursue a course of study or accompany a student in a dependent capacity (i.e. parent) or as a guardian. Among the factors taken into consideration by Department of Home Affairs decision-makers are:

· Information about your immigration history
Your nearest Australian embassy or consulate may ask you to attend an interview to determine whether you meet the GTE requirement. In some cases, a simple visa application form may be sufficient.
Visa requirements for Australian students

Financial requirements:
A sufficient amount of funds to cover tuition, travel, and living expenses. AU$20,290 ($13,750) for a year is the amount you must demonstrate you have for living expenses (apart from tuition and travel). It can also be shown that your parents or spouse earn at least AUD60,000 (*US$40,660) a year to qualify for support.
Proficiency in English is required:
For non-English-speaking applicants (and those who have not studied in an English-speaking country for at least five years), you'll need to demonstrate proficiency in English. There are several tests eligible for consideration, including the IELTS, TOEFL iBT, Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic, and Cambridge Advanced English (CAE). It depends on whether you wish to apply for a full degree, do a foundation course, or enroll in ELICOS (English Language Intensive Course for Overseas Students).
Health requirements:
In some cases, students may be required to undergo a medical and/or radiological check-up to demonstrate their health (this may apply, for example, to those intending to train as doctors, dentists, or nurses). The Australian Immigration Department may require you to consult a doctor who has been approved for immigration purposes.
