Organ transplantation for end stage organ failure can be a lifesaving intervention in patients with organ failure and mostly can be performed electively with few exceptions. Patients with acute liver failure, acute on chronic liver failure and those with hepatocellular cancer need an urgent transplant. Some countries have stopped living donor organ transplants (with exception for life saving measures) while some continue with deceased donor organ transplantation.
