A vacuum cleaner that fails to turn on or stay on is a common challenge – but with alittle expert advice, it’s often fixed easily. These troubleshooting tips should guide you to get your appliance up and running once more.

Check the Power

It might sound easy, but lack of power is frequently the cause of a central vacuum system that fails to work. Check that the vacuum cleaner is connected to a working power outlet and that the fuses and breakers don’t need to change.

Activated Thermal Cut-Out

An activated thermal cut-out due to blockage is also very likely to cause the problem. Look for blockages in the hose and filters, and eliminate any impediments that you find.

You may also need to leave the machine turned off for the recommended cooling time, state din its manual.

A Full Bag

In other cases, a full vacuum bag will stop the appliance from being turned on. To fix this problem, just replace the bag.

Damaged Vacuum Cleaner Cord

If all the others fail, a damaged vacuum cleaner could be causing the issue. Start checking that the cord is correctly connected to the central vacuum system(again, this is astonishingly easy to assume) and that there are no splits in the rubber. If the cord is damaged, it will need immediate repair or replacement.

Faulty On/Off Switch

The on/off button can break with time and require replacement. While different vacuum cleaners have varying switches; they are all quite similar to replace.

Motor

If the motor is defective, the vacuum cleaner will seem to be dead.  Remember that a defective motor is often caused by other matters like obstructed filters or overuse of the same vacuum bag.  So when changing the motor recall to check that there isn't a primary issue that has to cause the motor to fail.

If your central vacuum system isn’t working appropriately, look at our vacuum cleaner spare parts page –whatever the matter, we’ll have the spare part you need.

Smelly Vacuum Cleaner Bag

A smelly vacuum cleaner bag (for vacuums with bags) is the most likely to cause problems– after all, most things from food to animal hair can end up in there!

To fix the problem, just replace the bag.

Dirty Filters

Dirty filters are also likely to bring problems. If they are dirty, the problem can be solved by replacement.
