The epidermis is the outermost skin layer that is made of protein and lipid fat. The epidermal proteins and lipid help get rid of skin dehydration. When both of these are present in the epidermis in insufficient amounts then your skin turns dry and more sensitive, becoming highly prone to itchy dry skin rashes.

If you leave this problem untreated then you may experience conditions like dermatitis, infections, and dark spots on the skin

Seasonal changes and the use of harsh chemical products on the skin come under the external causes of dry skin.

The weather changes have a great impact on your skin. For instance, your skin becomes too dry in winter than summer due to low moisture. This can get you to winter dry skin rash.

Over-using soaps on your skin can pull out all the natural oils from your skin, which can make your skin prone to itchy dry skin rashes. Furthermore, the condition of dry skin may worsen if you chose a wrong moisturizer or not applying it rightly.

Skin dryness occurring due to certain medications for different health conditions, genetic factors, and aging are listed under the internal dry skin causes.

Due to aging, the production of natural oils in the body lowers. This is why elderly people usually have dry skin.

Your genes can also impact the type and health of your skin. If your parents have dry skin, then you’re also likely to have dry skin.
